This session isn’t new if you’ve been following me since last summer, BUT these film scans weren’t ready at the time I initially shared Olivia and Ryan’s engagement session and they deserved their own post. These two are literally the most photogenic couple ever, which obviously made it a dream to shoot their engagement and wedding, but throw some 35mm film into the mix and we have absolute magic.
I have been shooting film leisurely for the past seven years, but had only used it for client work once until 2021. Part of me enjoyed keeping this aspect of photography to myself – it was a hobby, something I could be intentional with: taking photos of my travels, family and friends on film. But as I have grown in my craft, I realized that the work I loved the most was vastly different than what I had been creating for 90% of my clients and it was time I merged the two. Over the last two seasons I have fully embraced my photographic style, and it has resulted in working with dream clients in dream locations who hire me for a unique, timeless way of documenting these fleeting moments in their lives.
The majority of this engagement session was shot on digital, but I shot a roll of Porta 400 and a roll of 400 tri-x and the photos came out so stunning. Developed and scanned by Bellows Film Lab in Wicker Park.
